What is The Difference Between GB/T, IEC, SAE and CHAdeMO Electrical Charging Connector?

Table of Content [Hide]

At present, the international electrical charging pile and EV charging connector interface standards are mainly divided into the Chinese standard of GB/T 20234, the North American standard CCS1 of J1772, the European standard CCS2 of IEC 62196, the Japanese standard of CHAdeMO and the Tesla standard of NACS.

What is The Difference Between GB/T, IEC, SAE and CHAdeMO Electrical Charging Connector?

The national standard GB/T 20234.2 is the main standard for charging interface, which supports AC charging and DC charging. The national standard uses a 7-pin plug to ensure the safety and compatibility of the charging process.

In North America, the SAE J1772 standard is widely used, which is mainly suitable for AC charging. This standard uses a 5-pin plug to ensure the safety and compatibility of the charging process.

The European charging connector interface standards mainly include Type 2 and CCS interfaces. Type 2 is an AC charging standard with a plug and a socket, also known as the Mennekes standard. It uses a 7-pin plug design and supports both AC charging and DC charging, but an adapter is required when connecting a fast charging pile. It is the charging interface specification in most parts of Europe, especially for electric vehicles manufactured in some continents. The CSS interface is compatible with both DC and AC charging, and is mainly used in high-power fast charging stations, supporting faster charging of electric vehicles.

Japan mainly uses the CHAdeMO standard, which is designed for DC fast charging. The CHAdeMO standard uses a 9-pin plug, which has excellent charging power and wide compatibility.

Tesla has a large number of electric vehicles due to its early development, and has designed its own charging standard, the Tesla Supercharger standard.
