Automotive Wire Harness Industry Research

Table of Content [Hide]

The wiring harness is the main body of the network of automotive circuits and without it there would be no automotive circuits. A wiring harness is a component that is formed by connecting a contact terminal (connector) made of copper to a wire or cable, which is then plasticised with an insulator or an additional metal housing. In modern automobiles, there are especially many automotive wiring harnesses, and electronic control systems are closely related to the wiring harness. If the functions of the microcomputer, sensors and actuators are compared to the human body, it can be said that the microcomputer is equivalent to the human brain, the sensors are equivalent to the sensory organs, the actuators are equivalent to the motor organs, then the wiring harness is equivalent to the nerves and blood vessels.

New energy vehicles have entered a period of rapid penetration, and domestic automakers are in urgent need of industrial transformation, with clear targets for electrification. Domestic automakers have set targets for new energy penetration, including BYD's 104,338 passenger car sales in March, with an electrification rate of 100%, Dongfeng's efforts to achieve full electrification by 2024, and China FAW's efforts to achieve full electrification by 2030.

The penetration rate of new energy passenger cars depends on the combined effect of demand, supply and policy. According to data from the China Association of Passenger Cars, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles has reached 23.4% from January to May 2022, which is ahead of the target set by the General Office of the State Council in the Development Plan for the New Energy Vehicle Industry (2021-2035) to reach about 20% of total new vehicle sales by 2025. Overall, the new energy market has maintained a high growth rate in terms of consumer willingness to buy, the ability of car companies to launch new models and the policy support for the new energy market. In June, the retail penetration of new energy vehicles reached 27.4%. If the current high growth trend continues, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles may reach 30% by 2022 and 40% by 2025. However, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles is still variable due to upstream raw material price pressure, chip shortages, the end of policy subsidies, lower demand for passenger cars and the elimination of local car brands due to technological updates.
